Harry Kane Finally Lifts a Trophy

Harry Kane’s long wait for silverware is over. The England captain has finally claimed the first major trophy of his senior career after Bayern Munich secured their 33rd Bundesliga title.

The 31-year-old striker was forced to watch from the stands on Saturday, serving a suspension after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season. A late equaliser from RB Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen in the 94th minute delayed the celebrations, as Bayern were held to a draw.

But the champagne was finally uncorked on Sunday when second-placed Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw by Freiburg. With only two games left, Leverkusen can no longer catch Bayern’s points tally, sealing the title for the Bavarian giants.

Kane’s trophy drought had stretched across 694 appearances for club and country, despite numerous individual accolades. Before this breakthrough, he had endured heartbreak in several finals — including a Champions League and two Carabao Cup finals with Tottenham Hotspur, two European Championship finals with England, and the German Super Cup final on his Bayern debut last season.

Bayern’s return to the top comes after a rare trophyless season last year, when Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen broke their domestic dominance. But under Vincent Kompany, Bayern have been in control for much of the current campaign.

Kane, who joined Bayern from his boyhood club Spurs in 2023, is also on pace to finish as the Bundesliga’s top scorer in each of his first two seasons. He scored 36 goals in his debut campaign and has already netted 24 times this season with two matches remaining.

After years of near misses, Kane’s persistence has finally paid off — and Bayern’s latest title makes his move to Germany a winning one.
