Kano Governor Abba Yusuf Declares Loyalty to Kwankwaso: “NNPP Will Follow You Anywhere”

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, assuring him that his supporters will follow him wherever his political journey leads.
Addressing 484 local government councillors from the 44 LGAs of Kano State at the Government House on Sunday, Governor Yusuf declared that the NNPP in Kano remains firmly under Kwankwaso’s leadership.
“Wherever he [Kwankwaso] goes politically, his supporters will follow,” Yusuf assured, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The governor also used the occasion to charge councillors with the responsibility of serving as a bridge between the government and their communities. He urged them to listen to constituents, identify pressing needs, and relay those to the state government for quick action.
“You are the eyes and ears of the government at the grassroots. Go back to your wards, listen to the people, and present their most urgent needs. Once you do that, we will act,” Yusuf said.
In a move to empower local development, Governor Yusuf announced that the state has earmarked nearly ₦5 billion for ward-level projects, focusing on education, drainage, and other critical infrastructure. He emphasized the need for transparency, sincerity, and accountability in utilizing the funds.
The remarks come amid a wave of political realignments nationally, particularly with recent defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), including that of former Delta State Governor and PDP vice-presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa. Speculation is mounting that more high-profile defections could follow.
Yusuf’s statement is widely seen as a strategic reaffirmation of party unity in Kano, as discussions continue about Kwankwaso’s potential moves on the national political scene ahead of 2027.
